Arriva has announced that it has secured 14 separate bus contracts in a competitive public tender for the Central Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. This achievement ensures Arriva’s continued presence in the region for the next 10 years.

Arriva has been operating in Central Bohemia since 2009 and plans to re-brand its existing fleet of 300 buses with the colours of the local passenger transport authority for the Prague and Central Bohemia region. In addition, Arriva will add 163 new vehicles to its fleet, increasing the total to 463. Out of these, 40 new buses will be introduced in 2023, with the rest scheduled for delivery in 2024.

The newly awarded contracts are set to commence in December 2024 and will run for 10 years, with an annual value of €50 million. Under these contracts, the bus company will operate 34.1 million kilometres annually, representing a 42% share of the total region.

Arriva awarded contract for operation of Slovenian public transport services

Sian Leydon, Managing Director for Mainland Europe at Arriva, expressed her satisfaction with the win, stating: “This is an important development for our business in the Czech Republic, securing our position as one of the prominent operators of public transport services in the country. Central Bohemia is the largest region in the Czech Republic and surrounds the capital city of Prague. We look forward to continuing to provide public transport services in co-operation with the local authorities.”

The contracts cover 14 districts in Central Bohemia, including Mladoboleslavsko, Podebradsko, Kutnohorska, Kostelecko, Caslavsko, Jilovsko, Pribramsko, Rozmitalsko, Horovicko, Berounsko, Stochovsko, Horomericko, Kladensko and Hostivicko.

Arriva‘s success in Central Bohemia follows recent achievements in the Czech rail industry, where the company has been awarded contracts to operate in Pilsen for 15 years and in South Moravia for 10 years, enhancing its presence in the Czech transportation sector.
