Open DC and Campana Partnership To Boost Malaysia-Thailand Data Connectivity

Open DC Sdn Bhd (Nov 2024)

Open DC Sdn Bhd and Campana Group today announced a partnership to facilitate the installation of subsea cable in Thailand and its extension into Malaysia’s data centre via a terrestrial cable, according to a press statement released by the companies.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in improving the telecommunications infrastructure between Thailand and Malaysia.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), inked by Campana and Open DC, outlines Campana’s plan to land its subsea cable at the Satun Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Thailand and extend it via a terrestrial cable to the D8-1 data centre, owned and managed by Open DC in Delapan, Special Border Economic Zone (SBEZ), Malaysia.

The project is also expected to have a substantial impact on the telecommunications landscape of Southeast Asia (SEA), enhancing cross-border connectivity and improving access to international markets for Malaysian businesses. This collaboration between Open DC and Campana will ultimately support regional digital transformation and bolster the overall competitiveness of the SEA region in the global digital economy.

D8-1, located just 2km from the Thai border, is the first tier-3 data centre in northern Malaysia. Its strategic location and top-tier infrastructure make it an essential hub for cross-border connectivity, offering businesses improved data transfer speed and greater reliability. With the extension of Campana’s cable to D8-1, the data centre will play a pivotal role in managing increased data traffic and optimising the performance of digital services in the region.

Managing Director of Open DC Weng-Yew Wong said, “Enhanced network capabilities, including faster speed and reduced downtime, will support a variety of application areas, from cloud computing to secure data exchanges. This improved infrastructure will not only strengthen connectivity between Malaysia and Thailand but also open new avenues for regional businesses to expand their digital footprint and improve operational efficiency.”

CEO of Campana Group Dr Myo Ohn said, “This partnership with Open DC is a crucial step in reinforcing Southeast Asia’s digital backbone.”
