Johor has secured potential investments exceeding US$190 million (RM850 million) from several leading South Korean companies following a recent working visit to South Korea, said Johor Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs, and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han.
Lee shared that the investments stemmed from meetings held by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and a state delegation with prominent companies, including Hanwha Solutions Corporation, SPC Group, LG Chems, and CJ CheilJedang Group. These companies have expressed interest in investing in various sectors, particularly clean energy, chemicals, and halal food.
“The delegation’s meetings with these companies highlight the growing potential of Johor as a hub for innovation and sustainable industries. Hanwha Solutions Corporation, for instance, is well-regarded for its advancements in clean energy and chemicals, while SPC Group is a global leader in food with popular brands like Paris Baguette,” Lee said at the Johor state legislative assembly session in Kota Iskandar.
In response to a question from Amira Aisya Abd Aziz (Muda-Puteri Wangsa) about the outcome of the visit and the expected investments, Lee noted that strategic locations such as the Tanjung Langsat Industrial Complex and the Pengerang Petroleum Integrated Complex (PIPC) would be the focus of many of these investments. He added that these areas are critical for the development of the chemical and petrochemical industries, offering essential infrastructure and support facilities.
Other industrial areas highlighted for their investment potential include Ibrahim Technopolis (IBTEC), Iskandar Halal Park, Eco Business Park, Nusajaya Tech Park, AME I Park, and Senai Airport City, all of which provide strong basic infrastructure for businesses.
Lee emphasised that the state government is optimistic about the long-term impact of these investments on Johor’s economy, with an emphasis on creating sustainable industries. “The positive results from this working visit will enhance Johor’s competitiveness not only within Malaysia but across the region,” he said.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz, who led the four-day delegation to Seoul in late October, previously mentioned that the investments would generate high-income job opportunities and stimulate economic growth, benefiting the people of Johor.
